The age of participants on our Workshops typically ranges from late twenties to early fifties. It is often only after some years in the workplace that individuals realize that the career they are in is not ideal. Others reach their forties and know they need a change, but are not sure what it is or how to get there. We are increasingly getting participants who want a working plan for retirement.
The one-day Workshop is introductory and explores three key questions. a) What do you really want to do, and how can you work that out?
Psychometric testing can sometimes be very helpful, but cannot always predict exactly what you want to do. Some people find it helpful to confirm some of their decisions made in our workshops with psychometric tests. Others prefer to get to know themselves better through testing before embarking on a decision-making process. Both approaches are helpful. The most important thing is not to allow any test or counsellor to tell you what you should do. This should always be your decision.
Since the cost of Workshops for individuals may change, it will be indicated on the calendar.
Careers do not change overnight. Our approach is to develop a plan and, when you are able to, work towards a career shift. This may mean finding a job in the meantime, starting a business on the side, or even developing a range of businesses where some businesses subsidize others.
Using résumés alone own are not a highly successful way of job-hunting unless an agent is marketing you on your behalf. Our workshops will provide you with alternatives to sending out résumés. This does not mean you can do without one. It simply means you need more alternatives. Many people simply do not know how to job hunt. We will teach you how to job hunt more proactively and to present what you do to prospective employers in a more focused way.
No one can tell you what you should do. What we can do is help you discover what you want to do, how to explore it with others, and how to find a potential employer when you are ready.
Our Workshops are not designed to help you decide on your direction of study but rather to help you with your career choice. Once you have done sufficient research on what you really want to do, you will be in a better position to explore study options with a counsellor that specializes in that specific area. The danger in making a study choice before some tentative career choice is that you may enjoy studying a particular field, but eventually dislike the work. We see this with many adults who attend our Workshops. They now wish they knew more about the job before they started studying for it!
